NOT A DAY GOES BY
This haiku took weeks to complete. It began with re-living a memory that was symbolic of what I believed about myself, and about love. Now it has become a lesson in love. I could never explain what I have learned outside of a haiku. I hope that when you read this, you will understand because you will feel the love.

Not a day goes by
When I don't think about you,
Wish I could see you.
Not a day goes by
When I don't wonder if you
Noticed my absence.
Not a day goes by
That my heart is not wanting
What never could be.
Words express a Love
Yearned for all my life, seen as
Never their first choice.
A lie kept alive
By desperate memories.
Feelings not for one,
But ghosts of my past.
Of unrequited love, viewed
Insatiable, by
A twisted psyche.
Where love was an illusion
And came with a price.
Real love, I knew not
‘Til you showed me the lie and
Gave love permission.
You said to me it’s
Okay to love more than one,
Tis not disloyal.
Truth told to my heart
Feelings spoken, accepted
My goodness affirmed.
Till a moment when
Misstep turned me back in time.
Unbeknownst to me,
I became deceived.
Worthy of real love no more
Giving life to fear,
Death to my goodness.
Transforming to obsession,
A true, perfect love.
A real affection
Not held back by boundaries.
A love born of light.
Where one can say I
Love you, and not be maligned,
Or words misconstrued.
Meaningless is a
Stranger’s view, when love honors
The voice of our hearts.
Love begins with self.
Shared with others, feels divine,
And is of Divine.
Love is to accept,
Believe in, and encourage
Light in others, self.
