NOT ALL THOUGHTS ARE MINE

09.21.2014

Not all thoughts are mine

I do not have to own them

As they seek entrance

Entrance and control

Of the way I view my life

Life’s blessings, burdens

I truly believed

Because thoughts were present, heard

They belonged to me

Dark thoughts born of fear

Waltzing in like new owners

Starting to direct

Consuming moments

Pillaging peaceful places

And taking up space

Illusions of real

Drawn by beings trapped in haze

Obstruct my heart’s view

Then emotions seize

And fatalistic thoughts brew

Causing misery

Until yesterday

When I understood at last

That I have a choice

Swallow’s poignant words

'I do not need to accept

And become blinded'

Save faith as my font

I must focus on my path

Like a hawk upon its prey

Not upon harsh thoughts

Visions of harm, pain, revenge

Leading to despair

Renew focus from
Unkind deeds to destiny

Welcoming joy, sun

Hold fast to heart's course

Faithful light secures my dreams

In darkest moments

My essence, rooted

In love, courage, resilience

A twice blooming bud
